GSP hosted the Erie County Capital Projects Showcase on Friday, November 21, at Work Space Sandusky, bringing together community partners, project leaders, and local officials for an in-depth look at the capital investments poised to shape the region’s future.
The program featured updates on current and upcoming projects from organizations and communities across Erie County, offering attendees the opportunity to hear directly from project partners, ask questions, and gain insight into how these investments will support neighborhoods, businesses, and long-term regional vitality.
Six presentations were made at the event:
- Campbell Christian Community Center (The Center): Executive Director, Chris Sommers, shared plans for the center’s expansion, aimed at strengthening community services and outreach.
- Lion’s Park, City of Sandusky: Director of Community Development, Colleen Gilson, and Interim Director of Public Works, Josh Snyder, provided an update on improvements at Lion’s Park, focused on enhancing public amenities and shoreline access.
- Horizon Education Centers: Chief Operations Officer, JD Smith, outlined plans for a new Erie County facility that will expand early learning and childcare capacity.
- Sandusky State Theatre: Board Chair, Colleen Shay Murray; Spokesperson, Tim Parkison; owner’s representative Tom Einhouse; and board member Lillian Shaffer detailed progress on the historic theatre’s multi-phase restoration.
- Huron Boat Basin, City of Huron: City Manager, Stuart Hamilton, highlighted necessary improvements for the Huron Boat Basin.
- Village of Kelleys Island: Mayor Ron Ehrbar presented several ongoing infrastructure and community development initiatives on Kelley’s Island.

The audience included elected officials and representatives from across the region, including State Representative D.J. Swearingen, Tim Schneider from U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno’s office, Ashley Aston from U.S. Senator Jon Husted’s office, Sandusky City Commissioner Jeff Krabill, incoming Sandusky City Commissioner Tom Tucker, Perkins Township Trustee Tim Coleman, Huron City Councilmember Sam Artino, and members of the local business community. GSP extends its appreciation to these leaders for their engagement and support.
