U.S. 250 Visitation Analysis

U.S. 250: A Regional Retail Corridor Worth Understanding

The U.S. 250 corridor is one of the Greater Sandusky Bay Region’s most important commercial corridors, serving as a retail anchor for residents, visitors and businesses across Northern Ohio.

A visitation analysis from the Greater Sandusky Partnership Policy Center shows that the 2.1-mile stretch of Milan Road between Oakland Avenue and State Route 2 generated 15.6 million visits from 2.54 million unique visitors in 2025. Those visitors returned an average of 6.15 times throughout the year, reinforcing U.S. 250’s role as a regular shopping, dining and service destination and not just a pass-through corridor.

The study found that U.S. 250 functions on a regional scale. Nearly 72% of visits came from Erie, Huron, Sandusky, Ottawa and Lorain counties, while nearly one-quarter came from more than 50 miles away. The data points to a corridor that serves local residents, regional shoppers and out-of-market visitors who rely on U.S. 250 for access to major retailers, restaurants, hotels and entertainment.

One of the most interesting findings is how much summer changes the corridor’s rhythm. While weekends remain strong year-round, summer’s biggest lift happens during the week. Weekday visitation increases 51% during peak summer months, meaning a summer Tuesday can perform more like a spring Saturday.

The report also shows that visitors spend meaningful time on the corridor, with an average visit of 103 minutes and a median visit of 52 minutes. That suggests many customers are making multiple stops in one trip to do shopping, dining, run errands, moving between nearby businesses.

The analysis serves as a piece of 250 Years on Route 250, a storytelling series from GSP celebrating the impact of the corridor and the businesses behind that impact. Throughout the series, GSP will highlight local businesses, share data insights and recognize the people and investments that have helped make U.S. 250 a key driver of regional activity.
