Economic Development Week 2026: Okamoto Sandusky

As part of International Economic Development Council’s Economic Development Week 2026 and its centennial year, we’re highlighting companies with long-standing histories that continue to invest in Greater Sandusky.

Founded nearly 100 years ago, Okamoto Industries Inc. has built a global legacy in manufacturing. Its local operation, Okamoto Sandusky Manufacturing produces high-quality synthetic leather materials for the automotive and transportation industries, serving both North American and international markets.

In 2024, the company announced a $1.4 million investment, supporting the retention of more than 130 jobs and continued growth at its Sandusky facility.

This project is supported through infrastructure investment from the Ohio Department of Transportation and programs from the Ohio Department of Development and JobsOhio, in coordination with the City of Sandusky and Team NEO. Greater Sandusky Partnership worked with partners to help identify and navigate these resources.

Projects like this show how economic development works, aligning infrastructure, funding, and partnerships to support business investment and job retention.

"We were looking to expand our business, but it was noticed that the current surrounding roads were not in a condition to handle the additional trucking. GPS managed to secure the infrastructure investment quickly. The City of Sandusky helped ensure the project was completed on time, with no major disruptions to the community and the factory.”
